Increased oxidative stress, inflammation, and glutamate: Potential preventive and therapeutic targets for hearing disorders.
Hearing disorders constitute one of the major health concerns in the USA. Decades of basic and clinical studies have identified numerous ototoxic agents and investigated their modes of action on the inner ear, utilizing tissue culture as well as animal and human models. Current preventive and therapeutic approaches are considered unsatisfactory. Therefore, additional modalities should be developed. Many studies suggest that increased levels of oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, and glutamate play an important role in the initiation and progression of damage to the inner ear leading to hearing impairments. To prevent these cellular deficits, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and antagonists of glutamate receptor have been used individually or in combination with limited success. It is essential, therefore, to simultaneously enhance the levels of antioxidant enzymes by activating the Nrf2 (a nuclear transcriptional factor) pathway, dietary and endogenous antioxidant compounds, and B12-vitamins in order to reduce the levels of oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, and glutamate at the same time. This review presents evidence to show that increased levels of these cellular metabolites, biochemical or factors are involved in the pathogenesis of cochlea leading to hearing impairments. It presents scientific rationale for the use of a mixture of micronutrients that may decrease the levels of oxidative damage, chronic inflammation, and glutamate at the same time. The benefits for using oral administration of proposed micronutrient mixture in humans are presented. Animal and limited human studies indirectly suggest that orally administered micronutrients can accumulate in the inner ear. Therefore, this route of administration may be useful in prevention, and in combination with standard care, in improved management of hearing problems following exposure to well-recognized and studied ototoxic agents, such as noise, cisplatin, aminoglycoside antibiotics, and advanced age
Reviving Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation: An Agenda for Action
In this article, we examine in detail the reasons related to the declining operating and financial performance of Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC). The contribution of various environmental and governance issues related to the decline of GSRTC are identified. Based on the diagnosis, a detailed revival plan consisting of a set of actions to be undertaken by the management is proposed. The responsibilities of the government, the management, and the employees in implementing the revival plan are briefly discussed. This article concludes with set of strategic priorities that need to be examined by government in reviving GSTRC and other similar state-owned public utilities.

SETS achieves security of the exchanged information, attack resilience and user’s privacy. In addition, SETS can be easily adapted for mobile devices, since field experimental results show the effectiveness of the protocol on actual smart-phone platforms
Elasticity-mediated self-organization and colloidal interactions of solid spheres with tangential anchoring in a nematic liquid crystal
Using laser tweezers and fluorescence confocal polarizing microscopy, we
study colloidal interactions of solid microspheres in the nematic bulk caused
by elastic distortions around the particles with strong tangential surface
anchoring. The particles aggregate into chains directed at about 30 degrees to
the far field director and, at higher concentrations, form complex kinetically
trapped structures. We characterize the distance and angular dependencies of

Privacy-preserving scheme for mobile ad hoc networks.
This paper proposes a decentralized trust establishment protocol for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), where nodes establish security associations. In order to achieve privacy and security, we use homomorphic encryption and polynomial intersection so as to find the intersection of two sets. The first set represents a list of recommenders of the initiator and the second set is a list of trusted recommenders of the responder. The intersection of the sets represents a list of nodes that recommend the first node and their recommendations are trusted by the second node. In our experimental results we show that our scheme is effective even if there are 30 trusted nodes
Anti-isospectral Transformations, Orthogonal Polynomials and Quasi-Exactly Solvable Problems
We consider the double sinh-Gordon potential which is a quasi-exactly
solvable problem and show that in this case one has two sets of Bender-Dunne
orthogonal polynomials . We study in some detail the various properties of
these polynomials and the corresponding quotient polynomials. In particular, we
show that the weight functions for these polynomials are not always positive.
We also study the orthogonal polynomials of the double sine-Gordon potential
which is related to the double sinh-Gordon case by an anti-isospectral
transformation. Finally we discover a new quasi-exactly solvable problem by
